The clamp AGV shown in the photograph is part of a supply of hybrid-guided vehicles, where two guidance systems alternate to ensure efficiency and safety at all times and in every area of the end customer’s plant.

The laser guidance system allows the forklift truck to move outside the warehouse and in the area where the reels exit the printing, laminating and inspection machines (printer, laminator & doctor machine). This system uses a latest-generation laser scanner offering extremely high performance and exceptional accuracy. Thanks to this information, the vehicle’s computer is able to determine the exact position of the AGV even when environmental conditions change. The laser scanner is a vision system that provides continuous 360° monitoring, essential to ensure safety and navigation accuracy.

The other type of guidance fitted on clamp trucks is the inertial guidance system, which enables navigation through the use of an antenna communicating with a gyroscope and providing the absolute position. Thanks to this device, the forklift truck or shuttle can move at any time and pass over magnets embedded in the floor. In this specific case, magnetic navigation takes over when the AGV must lift the load up to 7 metres, in other words when it must stack 5 reels one on top of another. Magnetic inertial guidance is therefore essential inside the warehouse when stacking reels, namely the customer’s UDCs (unit loads), at a height exceeding 4.4 metres, which corresponds to the installation height of the laser head.
